Manifesto 7.2 - Start NOW by Sarah Bryan

“I’m waiting for the perfect timing before I start”

Sounds like a familiar statement, doesn’t it? I’d be willing to bet you’ve heard this said before, or even said it yourself. Perfect Timing means that everything is ready to go, without any loose ends or unknowns. You’re prepared personally, and your circumstances are finally aligned for success. If the timing is perfect, then everything will turn out fine.

Unfortunately, Perfect Timing never really comes for most of us (maybe not for anyone). So we keep waiting, and put off what we really want while we hope for the ever-elusive perfect moment to come. While the timing does work out for some, most us live our lives constantly waiting but never doing.

Let me submit an alternative option, if I may. Here at Bright Ideas, we believe that Perfect Timing doesn’t really exist. It’s a myth at best, a fantasy that keeps people from pursuing their dreams. Instead, we believe that the perfect time to start is right NOW. No more waiting for circumstances to align; just step out and act. Once you accept that perfect timing isn’t real, you are free to take steps toward your future, regardless of how your circumstances look at the moment.

Is it scary to step out when things are all just so? Sure. The unknown and imperfect are inherently frightening, but the freedom of finally acting far outweighs the scary “what ifs” that try to stand in your way. Look at your life, and find the places where you can take steps towards your dreams. Your initial actions don’t have to be big. Even the smallest step forward is worthwhile, but it can only happen if you choose to act. So be brave! Let go of Perfect Timing, and choose NOW!
