You Have Permission by Emily Lewin

design We often delay our creative goals and dreams because we're waiting for someone to give us permission to pursue them. We long for the affirmation that we are good enough, or have the right combination of talent and timing, to make sure that what we're pursuing will be successful. If the person who we highly respect in the field we want to pursue approached us and said, "I've seen your work and you are amazing, you are already way better than I was when I started. You have what it takes to make it, go for it!" most of us would run after our dream.

In the absence of that affirmation, we hold our beginning efforts up to the success of the experts and refrain from trying for fear of utterly failing. It is often the most audacious people - the ones willing to take surprisingly bold risks - who go the furthest, not the ones with the most talent and opportunity. What if the only way we could fail was to not try at all? What if we already had permission?

We believe that God intentionally made each of us creative and that He loves when we create (Manifesto 2). He has given us the ultimate permission and the creativity needed to pursue the dreams that are in our hearts. Let's redefine our idea of success from being an expert, to being a doer, a maker, or a finisher. We have what it takes, let's create!
